The Inter-Mountain Trio's Third Annual Concert & BBQ a Great Success!

Despite the darkened skies, the rain stayed away from our 3rd Annual IM3 concert and BBQ dinner on August 23, 2010.  Over 90 people attended the event.  Everyone enjoyed the toe tapping sing along music of the group and the great dinner after the concert prepared by our partners at the Rail Yard.  The group consisting of Mike McAllister, Tim Keegan and Don Golden, sounded wonderful, as usual.  They played many of the audience's favorites and some new tunes as well.

Thank you to all who participated in our annual fundraiser and thank you to IM3 Trio member and Pine Brook member, Tim Keegan, for donating his time and his talents.

Men's Club Championship Goes Forward

Despite Rain Soaked Course from Irene and Lee

The results are final. As usual Anthony did a magnificent job with the pairings, and making sure all ran smoothly.

Despite fairly wet conditions ala Irene and Lee, Carl acquiesced to letting the carts on the course both days so long as we stayed off #1 hill and #2 fairway.  Birdies on #1, on day one, by the eventual winner (BK), and #10, day two, by the eventual 2nd place (CQ), were a testament to not only the prowess of the better stickers at The Brook, but to their ability to find plugged balls.

The only controversy of the tournament involved a missed T-time. It was quickly resolved by putting the ill-informed participant (EF) into a group who was missing the player (MB) who failed to awaken in time.

After day one, 12 of the 16 participants were bunched up between 74 and 79, with JD, MB & SS in 1st place at 74. The eventual winner was one back at 75.

Day two proved to be another great day for golf.  Ben Kline put down the hammer, coasting to a 13 stroke (gross) victory at 153, with Chris Quenelle coming in second by a single stroke over the very young Kevin Johnston. There was some fine golf in that threesome, and I’m sure Kevin’s introduction to golf at this level was instructive.

The bagger division saw perennial Calcutta favorites JD Praught and Steve Serge rising to the top to take first and second in this very competitive group. I’m told it was nip and tuck all the way, with the last four holes telling the story.

Spring Round-up Recap
Rain, Rain Go Away - Not

On Tuesday, June 8th, the Marketing Committee met to finalize plans for the first annual spring mixed tournament planned for the upcoming Saturday.  The weather was forecasted to be in the low 80s with lots of sun.  The committee was sure they were going to have a perfect day for the Spring Round-up.  As the week progressed the forecast kept getting worse and worse.

By Friday night the weatherman was forecasting rain for most of the day.   Nevertheless, the committee arrived early Saturday morning to set up the course for the tournament.  They set up barriers to overcome on the first hole, installed two cups and two flags on the third hole, laid out a lasso for closet to the line on four, sharp shooter signs were placed on eight, a Boot Hill graveyard set up on seven and eighteen was set up with two flags with only one hole.  You can read about how these holes made the game very challenging by clicking here.

The hole sponsors signs were glued to the backer board on the posts and stuck in the ground at each tee.  Click here to see their signs. (This is a big file, be patient.)

At one o'clock it started to drizzle, and Pam Farhart, the tournament leader, said that the participants should have a good two hours of play before the rain started to come down hard.  It was more like two minutes.  Just as everyone arrived at their assigned tees, the light rain became a driving rain. One by one as the teams made the turn they headed to the saloon for some drinks instead of the next hole.  Tim and Lori White treated the cowhands to hot dogs, sandwiches and cookies.

Dinner was served at 5:30.  After dinner everyone was treated to some surprise entertainment.  Click to see who.

Thank you to all the hole sponsors, the players, those who came just for dinner, Tim and Lori White for the great food and drink, Anthony and his team of Andrew and Joe for helping out with the tournament, Tim Keegan, George Kline and Bill Perrone for entertaining and last but not least, Carl and his team for getting the course ready.

It was a fun day despite the all rain, and everyone is looking forward to the fall mixed tournament - Pirates of the Brook -on September 25th.  Sign up early, spots are limited.
